How to link Web Pages

Overview

There are five types of links that can be produced in Contribute 2

Linking existing and draft pages

  1. Navigate to an existing page (in this case Page 2), click the Edit button
  2. Place an insertion point where you want the link to appear.
  3. Enter some relevant text, for the name of the link (for today’s tutorial, External Link will suffice).
  4. Select this text by holding down shift and using the cursor keys to highlight the text (use left or right, depending on your insertion point). Or Use the mouse to select the text by clicking at the start of the text and dragging the mouse across the text, holding down the left mouse button.
  5. Click the Link button on the tool bar.
  6. From the pull-down menu select Drafts and Recent Pages.
  7. From here select a page that you have recently created a draft version of.
  8. Click ok.
  9. Click Publish.

Creating a new page from a link

  1. Navigate to an existing page, click the Edit button
  2. Place an insertion point where you want the link to appear.
  3. Enter some relevant text, for the name of the link (for today’s tutorial, External Link will suffice).
  4. Select this text by holding down shift and using the cursor keys to highlight the text (use left or right, depending on your insertion point). Or Use the mouse to select the text by clicking at the start of the text and dragging the mouse across the text, holding down the left mouse button.
  5. Click the Link button on the tool bar.
  6. From the pull-down menu select Create New Page.
  7. Choose from the green templates on which you can base your new page.

Linking external pages

  1. Navigate to a page and click the Edit button.
  2. Place an insertion point where you want the link to appear.
  3. Enter some relevant text for the name of the link (for today’s tutorial, External Link will suffice).
  4. Click the Link button on the tool bar.
  5. On the pull-down menu select Browse to Web Page
  6. Enter an external web address such as www.ed.ac.uk into the URL text box. See below:
  7. Click ok.

Creating a mail to link

  1. Navigate to a page and click the Edit button.
  2. Place the insertion point where you want the link to appear.
  3. Enter some relevant text for the name of the link (for today’s tutorials External Link will suffice).
  4. Select this text by holding down shift and using the cursor keys to highlight the text (use left or right, depending on your insertion point). Or Use the mouse to select the text by clicking at the start of the text and dragging the mouse across the text while holding down the left mouse button.
  5. Click the Link button on the tool bar.
  6. On the pull down menu select Browse to Web Page
  7. Enter in an external web address such as www.ed.ac.uk into the URL text box. See below
  8. Click ok.

Linking to a File on my Computer

  1. Navigate to a page. Click on the Edit button.
  2. Place an insertion point where you want the link to appear.
  3. Enter some relevant text for the name of the link (for today’s tutorials External Link will suffice).
  4. Select this text by holding down shift and using the cursor keys to highlight the text (use left or right, depending on your insertion point). Or Use the mouse to select the text by clicking at the start of the text and dragging the mouse across the text while holding down the left mouse button.
  5. Click the Link button on the tool bar.
  6. On the pull down menu select File on my Computer
  7. On the pop-up menu that appears, click browse and navigate to the file that you want to upload.
