Tutorials for web publishers
Editing Text on Web Pages
Overview
Contribute 2 is an all-in-one web browser and editor. It allows you to navigate a web site by clicking on links, much the same as you would in a web browser such as Internet Explorer.
In this case to the pages are ones that you can edit rather than ones you can simply read. At the page you need to edit, select the edit page button, make your changes and then select publish. The page on your website is now updated.

Looking at the Edit and Publish functions
- To load Contribute, double-click on the icon on the desktop or select it from the start menu.
For P.C. users :
Start > Programs > Macromedia > Contribute 2 or
For Mac users:
Applications > Macromedia Contribute
- From here you should see a screen similar to one below.

Select your website from the list “Begin editing my Websites” by clicking on the text.
- Your school site is now displayed in the navigation section of Contribute 2. Navigate around the site by clicking on some of the links on the left hand side menu and within the pages.
- Go to any page that you are able to edit and click the edit button on the Contribute 2 Navigation panel.
Please see tutorial 1 if you are unsure where this is.
- Contribute 2 will take a couple of seconds to update itself and allow you to carry on editing the pages. Once ready the Navigation bar will change to the Editing Panel as shown in Figure I below.
The content of the page will be encapsulated in green boxes called editable regions, see below. Normally there is only one such box: ‘Main page content’. Some pages have multiple editable regions, which behave in exactly the same way.
You can place the cursor anywhere within these editable regions by clicking the mouse where you would like to make an amendment.
NOTE: creating a new line
Press the enter key at the end of a sentence. You should notice that this leaves an extra line. This is due to the return setting a paragraph of text each time. To only move to the next line hold down shift and tap return.
When editing a page remember that:
Pressing Return will cause it to jump two lines instead of one.
Pressing Shift and Return will cause it to jump down one line instead of two.
- Click on the cancel button on the Editing Panel to disregard any changes you have made and to return to the browser view. This ensures that we do not publish further changes on the site.
