History |
R & R Clark, printers, was established in 1846 and formed a limited company in 1895. They played an important role in Edinburgh's printing history and enjoyed close relationships with the authors Rudyard Kipling, Robert Louis Stevenson and George Bernard Shaw. They had premises in Brandon Street which were extended in 1887 and in 1900. They celebrated their centenary in 1946, when ownership of the firm was gifted to Edinburgh University. In 1962 it became part of the Thyne Group, but was involved in a management buy-out in 1979, and soon thereafter was merged with T & A Constable, as Clark-Constable, but the combined company did not last long. From c 1919 they had links with Robert Cunningham & Sons, Alva.
