Whether in the production of literature, through the development of the periodical press, in fine printing or mass production, Scotland’s contribution to the history of the book, both within the nation and beyond its boundaries, was remarkable in the nineteenth century.
The aim of The Production of Culture is to explore a range of issues relating to the production, circulation, and reception of Scottish texts. In order to complement work being undertaken on volume three of A History of the Book in Scotland, emphasis will be on the period 1800-1880.
