Background

The annual seminars (now conferences) on the History of the British Book Trade were founded by the late Professor Peter Isaac in the early 1980s. Their aim is to provide a forum for scholars, independent researchers and anyone else who may have an interest in the history of the book trade in the British Isles. The conferences are informally linked with the British Book Trade Index and Quadrat, both initiated by Professor Isaac.

Conference Fellowships

An annual Conference Fellowship is offered to a postgraduate student whose research falls within the parameters of the conference and who wishes to present a paper. The Committee has selected two Fellows for the 2004 Conference: Giles Bergel (Queen Mary College, University of London) and Jane Thomas (University of Wales, Aberystwyth).

Publication of Papers

The papers presented will be published in July 2005 as part of the Print Networks series, published jointly by Oak Knoll Press in the USA and the British Library.
