Ruth McAdams
has recently completed her M.Phil. thesis at the University
of Edinburgh under the direction of Bill Bell and Peter
Garside, entitled The Posthumous British Editions
of Sir Walter Scott's Waverley Novels, 1832-1871, and
the Evolution of his Literary Legacy, for which
she received generous funding from the Thouron
foundation. She is currently research assistant on a
British Academy-funded
project to locate and create a catalogue of all
the illustrations of the Waverley Novels that appeared
in print form in Britain during the nineteenth century.
She is also the conference administrator for the recent
series of workshops on Transnational
Histories of the Book, and the editorial assistant
for the forthcoming Edinburgh Companion to Robert
Louis Stevenson.
Before coming to Edinburgh, she graduated summa cum
laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006, where
she studied English with minors in German and music
theory, was moderator of the Philomathean Society, and
played the oboe in the university orchestras.
