About Us

The College of Humanities and Social Science is the largest of the 3 Colleges within the University, reflecting the wide and dynamic nature of the 11 schools within the College.

There is a diverse range of taught courses and research interests, and the College welcomes all high-calibre candidates, particularly international students who add significantly to the richness, diversity and cosmopolitan nature of study at Edinburgh.

Throughout the world, the excellence of our teaching and research is recognised, leading to collaborations with other key international universities, as well as with companies and organisations.

*New* AHRC Awards

The AHRC provides funding to Universities is in the form of a block grant partnership (BGP). The University of Edinburgh invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for PhD and MSc study as part of their AHRC BGP award in the subjects listed on the web page below, to cover maintenance and fees for full-time or part-time study.

ESRC Quota Awards

The University has been awarded ESRC recognition for a number of programmes of study. The ESRC offers awards to linked Master's/PhD awards (1+3) and three year PhD studentships only (+3).

Career Development PhD Studentships in Counselling and Psychotherapy

IIn the academic year 2009-10, the University of Edinburgh is offering studentships to qualified counsellors or psychotherapists wishing to undertake full-time PhD research.

The studentships cover tuition fees and research costs plus a maintenance grant for three years. Successful applicants will be offered a range of teaching, research and other academic opportunities, tailored to their individual goals, to enhance their career development.
