The Economic and Social Research Council

The University of Edinburgh hosts the ESRC Genomics Forum which coordinates and brings synergies between activities in all the ESRC-funded centres on genomics.

It also hosts Innogen – the centre for social and economic research innovation in genomics. It was formed in 2002 and is a collaboration between the University of Edinburgh and the Open University.

A third important research centre is the Centre for the Advanced Study of the Arab World which was established under the directorship of Professor Robert Hillenbrand in 2006, as part of the UK’s language based Area Studies Initiative. The major funding bodies – the AHRC, ESRC, HEFCE & SFC awarded the Universities of Edinburgh, Manchester and Durham £5 million to establish the Centre to substantially enhance national capacity in Arabic and Arab Studies.

Information about the ESRC can be found here.
